When we retire from life / by Mandy Wintink

At some point we will defy death to the point where we will need to retire from life. Most of us won’t want to live forever, I don’t think. So we will have to decide when it’s time to check out. We’ll have to decide this because modern medicine will keep us alive long past our due date.

The question might be, When will we retire from life? Will it be similar to how we retire from work? Or sports? Will it be dictated to us or will we be able to dictate it? Imagine a forced retirement… at 100? 108? 125? When would that be? If our cognitive capacities remain enhanced long into old age we may be able to stay working really long. Or maybe old age will be an entirely different chapter filled with luxuries that the children, teenagers, and working people don’t have. I wonder what that would be?

Anyway… something to think about.
